Guidelines for parquet installation

To achieve the best results from parquet installation, certain conditions must be respected:
Prior to installation, other work must be completed: screed, window frames, plaster, electrical and plumbing installations, adjacent floors of other material...
1
The ambient temperature must not be below 10°C and the relative air humidity between 45% and 65%. On the other hand, the humidity of the substrates must not exceed 50%.
2
The screed must be clean and the rooms completely cleared. For heated screeds, the heating system must also be tested (thermal shock). If there are special situations with a dusty screed or moisture problems, it is necessary to apply primer before laying to create a vapour barrier and consolidate the screed by increasing the adhesion of the adhesive.
3
Parquet can be laid on a cement screed, on wood panels or on existing floors. Traditional cement screed has a drying time of 2 to 4 months or more, while for quick cements the time is between 10 and 15 days. In the case of pre-existing floors, check that they are in good condition if they are old parquet, or sand them if they are ceramic or marble floors.
4
There are two types of installation: bonded and floating. Glued installation is suitable for traditional screeds and especially for heating screeds because it optimises thermal transmission. The important thing is that the glue is spread evenly to avoid installation defects. While floating installation is suitable where there are pre-existing floors because it does not involve heavy demolition work and consequent inconvenience. Between the floor and the parquet, a mat of about 2mm thickness is placed, which creates a vapour barrier and improves soundproofing.
5
Once laid, it is recommended to clean the parquet floor with the suitable products indicated above. It is recommended to always wash the floor with a well wrung out cloth and never to use aggressive products or steam appliances as they may damage the surface.
